Monopolies: How it works | Texas Legal Entities
Monopoly may just seem like a harmless children’s game but it is actually a very interactive world of business that is happening every day. When you are beginning a business, you need to know what the market is like for your product. A monopoly only exists when one firm is controlling all of the business for one product such as TV’s. In the early 1900’s, monopolies existed everywhere because not many people could afford to mass produce products in such a way as they do it now. There are a few different types of monopolies. They vary between what the market is doing and what the company chooses to do. There can be monopolies such as “bad” monopolies and there can also be monopolies such as productive monopolies. Each of the different monopolies has its own positives and negatives that go along with that specific market. Some of the different monopolies are unavoidable. This means that no matter what you try to do, you as a company may be stuck in a monopoly that you didn’t really want to be a part of. This is just all part of the process of the economy.
Although many economists have been discussing this idea of monopolies in this century, there is currently no completely understood agreement between all of them. There is a lot of debate as to which products should reasonably have a monopoly but no one seems to agree as of now.
